EBENEZERS FREEHOUSE AND RESTAURANT

Our group of Four visited the above Freehouse on Friday 7th July 2007, having pre-booked our table for 20.00hrs.
We received a warm welcome and were shown to our table. Although there is no seperate dining area, the table was in a quiet corner of the bar. The menu is limited, but there was something for everyone, and the food was well cooked and presented. Most of the menu is English, but the speciality of the house is Thai Chicken Green Curry, cooked to whatever temperature you desire!!
We all enjoyed a very pleasant evening and rated Ebenezers overall
6.9 out of 10.

We visited Monty’s Brasserie and Bar on a cold January evening in 2008 and received a warm welcome from the staff. The atmosphere is cosy and refined befitting its location and connection to the well known Montagu Arms Hotel in Beaulieu in the New Forest
Menus were presented and although the choice was small we found an interesting selection with enough to suit most tastes. The meal was professionally cooked, tasty and well presented.
The staff were pleasant and polite which all helped towards an enjoyable evening.
Monty’s has a web site which we looked at following our visit and noticed a more extensive choice of dishes than those which were presented on our visit. Perhaps an oversight on our part prevented us from noticing or requesting further dishes. We will visit again and make enquiries.

The Intrepid Four set off again to test the culinary delights offered within the New Forest area.
This time we landed up at The Beaulieu Road Inn, run in a friendly, helpful manner by Jacqui and Dominic.
Although you won’t see much of Dominic because he is tucked away in the kitchen producing mouth watering dishes for your enjoyment, Jacqui is on hand to supply all your wishes.
Advertised as “Just Real British Pub Food” you won’t be disappointed at the menu followed by the quality of food. One member of our party enjoyed the ‘best steak and kidney pie I have tasted for years’, while the rest of us cleared our plates with satisfaction. All this lovely food teamed with a selection of real ales certainly made our evening one to remember and repeat in the future.
We recommend you visit and test for yourselves – cheers!

During one of our infamous culinary excursions recently we landed at the Fountain Court Hotel in Hythe First impressions were of a rather tired place which looks in urgent need of a major overhaul. One can imagine in times past an elegant building perhaps a stately home set alone within large gardens.
Today the gardens have been necessarily taken over to provide customers with car parking and minimal al fresco services.
The magnificent fountain, from which the Hotel takes its name, stands proudly in front of the main entrance and to our knowledge runs permanently. In fact, there hangs a very old painting of times long past in the hotel reception area of the fountain in frozen state.
Inside the Hotel is further evidence of a sadly neglected old home. Magnificent coves, intricate plasterwork, detailed ceiling roses, balustrades and chandeliers speak of a grandeur and elegance now lost.
Despite some neglect there remains an elegance and eccentricity about the Fountain Court
which maintains a steady and loyal patronage from local people and a curiosity to visitors.
Staff are friendly, calm and accommodating serving an extensive a la carte and a regular carvery. The desserts are always delicious with a good cup of coffee and mints to round off a memorable visit.

Date of Visit Friday 30th, October 2009

Murder Myster evening booked for 19.30hrs,13th, November 2009.
Sadly our visit to the Mortimer Arms was rather disappointing. On arrival it became apparent that there were only two members of staff trying to cover the bar and the restaurant, which obviously lead to delays on service. To make matters worse, three of the meals we ordered were unavailable as they were in the middle of changing their menu. When we were advised of this, we were asked to re-order but were not offered the menu back, so had to try and remember what there was. We ended up ordering steaks as this was the only thing we knew to be on the menu. The food itself was well prepared but unimaginative, and much of it appeared to be freezer to fryer.
On a happier note, we returned to the Mortimer Arms a few weeks later for a Murder Mystery Night which we all thoroughly enjoyed. The food was lovely and the staff were helpful and attentive. We would certainly go back for another such night.
